Today is the start of the NMCC 2nd blitz theme Chigorin Defence 1.d4 d5 2. c4 Nc6. We had some visitors that came to the Neo Manhattan Chess Centre. One of them is FM Peter Long who dropped by, Mohd Saprin Sabri who came later & me.
There are 12 players taking part in the NMCC 2nd theme Chigorin Defence whom are Phillipine Ian Udani, NM Kamal Abdullah, NM Kamalarrifin, Kamaluddin Yusof, Shamsol Baharin, 1st theme NMCC champion Abdullah Che Hassan, Fairin Zakaria, Kaushal Khandhar, Mohd Imran, Khairul Anuar, Zambri and Ahmad Nasri.

Participation/Eligibility
The Commonwealth Championships 2009 will be one tournament combining Open, Women, Open (U-20) and Girls (U-20), and each Commonwealth nation is entitled to one official entry in each of these categories.
In addition, U-16, U-14, U12, U-10, and U-8 championship medals (Gold, Silver and Bronze) for both Open and Girls will also be awarded.
All official entries will be provided full board and lodging. Additional entries will have to pay entry fees as per the schedule and stay in official hotels (inclusive of meals) at the rates provided below:

Regulations:
The Masterskill Commonwealth Chess Championships will be played over 9 rounds, and the FIDE Swiss System will be used (as paired using Swiss Manager), and the FIDE Laws of Chess will apply.
Prizes will be shared with those finishing on equal points and the tie break system to be used to determine the final positions will be announced before the start of play.
Zero start will be strictly observed and the time control will be 90 minutes for the whole game with 30 second time increments beginning from the first move.

Do note that all entries will need to be completed (see attached form below) and submitted together with a deposit of USD 100 and will close on 1 June 2009.
Late entries will only be accepted at the discretion of the organizers as hotels cannot be guaranteed and will also be subject to a USD 100 penalty
Mr. Ignatius Leong, President of the Commonwealth Chess Association, will appoint the Chief Arbiter
He (or his representative) will also sit on the Appeals Committee which will be chaired by Mr. D.V. Sundar, and the Tournament Director will be the third member. Two reserves will be appointed from amongst the official participants.

The last Commonwealth Chess Championship held in Malaysia was in 1992 at the Kompleks Sukan PERMATA (PETRONAS Training Unit), Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor. As we know it that the Commonwealth Chess Championship was held in India consecutively 5 years since 2003 till last year with Mumbai hosting 3 times (2003, 2004 & 2006), New Delhi (2007) & Nagpur (2008). With that we saw GM Nigel Short winning 3 times. This year the Commonwealth Chess Championship will be held at the Masterskill University College Campus in Ipoh, Malaysia from 14-21 July 2009

Neo Manhattan Chess Centre (NMCC) will organised the NMCC Friday(tomorrow) Blitz Thematic 2-09 : Chigorin Defense . This will be the second edition of this thematic tourney. The 1st edition saw Abdullah Che Hassan won the tournament which features the Sicilian Dragon as the theme.

Format : Blitz 5 minutes. Round Robin. ( On the tournament day, the organiser will decide whether to organised a single or double round robin)

Prize: Only the champion will receive the prize ( winner take all) . The prize will depend on the numbers of the participants but a minimum RM 70.00 cash prizes has been guaranteed for the winner !
In this thematic tournament 70% of the total fees will go to the winner and the remaining 30% will be allocate to NMCC as the operating course for the chess centre.
