Chess in Asean Primary School Sports Olympiad

Just after I report about the Malaysian contingent to World Youth Chess Championship, Turkey, Malaysia again sent another contingent this time to the Asean Primary School Sports Olympiad (APSSO), in Jakarta from 3rd November to 9th November 2009. There are total of 24 players & 12 officials from various sports such as football, table tennis, badminton, chess & athletics.

Four from the Under-12 this year best of the MSSM will be representing the country. They are Yeoh Li Tian (Sel) U-12 Boys Champion Ind, Muhd Irfan Haqqim Azhar (Sel) - Boys U12 1st Runner Up Ind, WCM Nur Nabila Azman Hisham (SEL) - Girls U12 Champion Ind and Tan Wei Hao (KL) - Boys U12 BEST BOARD 1 in the Team event. WCM Nur Nabila will also take part in the World Youth Chess Championship. The coaches were Pn. Suffiah Mohamed (SEL) & En. Rosli Ahmad (SWK). Good luck to the Malaysian chess contingent!

 Yeoh Li Tian is mostly known among the local chess players as he continues to inherit the knowledge from his father, NM Yeoh Chin Seng. He is considered to be one of the versatile young player in rapid & standard time control. He had proved himself as one of the competitor even in the open category. (Pic from Selangor Chess)

 

WCM Nur Nabila Azman Hisham is also one of the promising woman player. With the recent success in the recent Asean Age Group obtaining her title & 2nd placing in the UPSI. She will also be taking part in the World Youth Chess Championship. I would say she'll be the next WIM Siti Zulaika. (Pic from Selangor Chess)

 

 Muhd Irfan Haqqim Azhar is the younger brother of Muhd Syakir and also En. Azhar son. He's one of the U-12 talented chess player.

 

 

 

Tan Wei Hao is the only player from Kuala Lumpur to represent Malaysia. He comes from Kepong primary school & recently become U-12 IIUM Champion with a better tie-break than his compatriot Faizal Roslan. He is also one of the promising player & with the right method, he can become one of the strong junior player.

Flag Presentation to Malaysian Contingent World Youth, Antalya Turkey, 11-23 November 2009

TURKEY HERE WE COME!

Last Sunday 1st November 2009, was the historic day in the Malaysian chess history as 11 smartly Malaysian junior players dressed in coats will be representing the country in the World Youth Chess Championship 2009 (under 8, under 10, under 12, under 14, under 16 and under 18 years old - open and girls) which will take place in Kemer-Antalya, Turkey from 11-23 November 2009 and were presented to the crowd during the flag presentation during the break of 2nd IIUM Invitational Open 2009. It was a memorable event for these juniors as MCF president, Tan Sri Ramli Ngah Talib & local media, TV3 were present together with the sponsors, En. Mohd Zuhri from Jom Makan, London & also an enthuthiastic supportive parents of Amier Hamzah. The crowd witnesses the flag presentation from the MCF president to the Chef de Mission, En Mohd Zuhri & onlooking national coach En. Azman Hisham. After that 3 shouts of Malaysia Boleh! were heard & photo session. Among the witnesses were FM Lim Yee Weng, Ian Udani, Me, Jax Tham, local bloggers Mr Saleh Latif (Gilocatur) & Syed Iskandar (Syedchess), IIUM students  and supportive parents. The sponsors, En Mohd Zuhri offered a reward to any of the participants who can deliver any medals. I hope this can spurred on their spirits to show that Malaysian tigers can achieve anything. Besides that I also hope that these juniors will remember their parents sacrifice just as Alexandra Kosteniuk dad's sacrifice for her to become world champion.

My dad sacrificed many things in life for me. He abandoned a very promising and lucrative career of an army officer just so that he could continue helping me with my chess and accompanying me to tournaments.

Mikheil Mchedlishvili wins inaugural Ravana Challenge Chess Championship

Georgian Mikheil Mchedlishvili(sitting) pipped Vladimir Georgiev(standing) of Macedonia in the tie-break after both grandmasters ended with 7.5 points at the end of the 10th and final round of the Ravana Challenge Chess Championship that concluded today (September 19, 2009) at the Ceylon Continental Hotel.

Mchedlishvili drew his final game with Alexander Shabalov (USA), while Georgiev drew with Merab Gagunashvili of Georgia. Anton Filippov of Uzbekistan could have joined the two on top but he was held to a draw by Indian IM Roy Saptarshi. Iranian GM, Elshan Moradiabadi, who also needed a win to finish on 7.5, was held to a draw by GM Krasimir Rusev of Bulgaria.

The tournament, organized by the Blue and Gold Chess Club, with the support of the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka, with TIGO as the principle sponsor, has been conducted over 10 rounds and has attracted players from 15 countries.

KTJ Invitational Chess Tournament 2009

The chess club of Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar will be organising THE 1^st Invitational Chess Tournament.

Venue : Tuanku Najihah Hall, Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar

New Date : 3 October 2009 (Saturday)

Time : 9.00 a.m. – 6.00 p.m.

Entry Fees : RM36 per team(3 players)

1. This tournament will be based on the FIDE 7 Round Swiss System.

2. The number of participants is cap at a maximum 100 players (50 players each category).

3. A school can only consist up to 3 people. (Cumulative for 3 player point will be taken)

4. Age is taken as of 1st of January 2009.

5. Each game will have a time control of 30 minutes per side.

6. A case of walk over will be granted if a player did not turn up for 5 minutes. In the eventuality that both players are absent, both will lose the game.

7. Players that are absent without a valid reason will be removed in the next round.

8. The organizing committee reserves the right to make amendments or any changes to the rules and regulation if the need arises.

9. To register, send an email to weijie@ktj.edu.my and cc it to kys13a@hotmail.com. State your name, identity card no, contact number, e-mail address and institution. If you are a rated player please do state your ratings as well.

10. Deadline of registration is on 25 September. Any late registration will only be catered if there are still places available.

Semua institusi di jemput untuk mengambil bahagian dalam pertandingan Liga Catur Jati Minda 2010 yang akan bermula pada bulan Januari ini.

Syarat penyertaan :-

1. Penyertaan hanya terbuka kepada INSTITUTUSI yang berdaftar dengan mana-mana agensi pendaftaran awam yang meliputi jabatan kerajaan, badan berkanun, institusi pendidikan, institusi kewangan, badan professional, syarikat yang berdaftar dengan SSM serta persatuan yang berdaftar dengan Jabatan Pendaftaran Pertubuhan.

2. Sebuah institusi boleh mendaftar satu atau lebih pasukan.

3. Sebuah pasukan hendaklah mengandungi tiga orang pemain dan/atau Dua orang pemain simpanan (reserve).

4. Setiap pemain dalam sesebuah pasukan hendaklah merupakan staf atau ahli yang sah bagi institusi mana yang beliau wakili, kecuali seorang yang dirujuk sebagai pemain import.

5. Perlawanan akan dijalankan pada setiap hari Selasa jam 7.00 pm hingga 10.00 pm bertempat di Dewan KLBraille, Batu Tiga Jalan Gombak, Kuala Lumpur.

6. Sistem pertandingan serta lain-lain maklumat akan dimaklumkan kemudian (TERTAKLUK KEPADA PENYERTAAN)

 7. Yuran Penyertaan: RM 500.00 untuk Satu Pasukan.
