Teh De Zen continued her giant killing spree after beating Indian favorite top seed Harshini. She now leads the group with the perfect score and will have to wait who’s the next opponent.

Teh De Juan lost the last round against rated Iranian Ganjali Hossein. So far his results were better as his opponents were half of his field. The next round he will face Askey Raveen Nimesh of Sri Lanka. Keep up the good job! Don’t be disappoint over 1 lost. The fight is not over yet.
Under 9 Girls Category
Teh De Zen won her last game against Natasha the sister of Raveen whom will play with De Juan in the next round. Now she will play against Indian titan Harshini whom is also the top seed of the tournament with the rating of 1519. If she wins, it will be a remarkable achievement for her. If she draws, Harshini will has tough time to compete as she hasn’t played with the upper half.
Both of the games will start 6:00pm Malaysian time.
Out of no where for international scenes, Teh De Juan & Teh De Zen whom both of them hailed from beautiful island of Penang state, Malaysia are making waves at the 6th Asian Schools Chess Championship 2010. The only international scenes they took part was the World Youth Chess Championship 2009 held in Antalya, Turkey except for De Juan with addition of Asian Youth 2010 in Beijing, China.

In this category, Teh De Juan is seeded 36th out of 43 placing. There were 8 FIDE rated players in the category mostly from India. This category has most of the participating countries such as China, Singapore, Australia, UAE, India, Iran, Sri Lanka (27 pax) and Malaysia. Already 3 rounds played and so far he scored 2.5 out of 3 points. The real test will be against Iranian Ganjali Hossein rated 1755. Ganjali had represent Iran quite a number of times including World Youth & Asian level and also the prestigious 1st Ayandehsazan Chess Cup held in Iran this year. The round 4 starts 2 hours ago.

Teh De Zen is seeded 27th out of 30 placing. Only 4 participating nations taking part in this category with mostly from Sri Lanka. Yesterday she caused the major upset when she beat K. Priyanka of India and now she will play against Askey Roshell Nathasha. Furthermore she’s leading in the Under 9 Girls Category with a perfect score. 1st seed Indian Harishini will played black against Sri Lanka 10th seed Herath. The round 4 starts 2 hours ago. The official hotel for the event is the Global Towers Hotel, Marine Drive Colombo 06. Malaysia were represented by Teh De Juan (Under-9) and Teh De Zen (Under-9 Girls) respective age group.
The Opening Ceremony Picture

Behind Mr Upali Gunasekara VP of the Sri Lanka Chess Association in white, Mr Luxman Wijesuriya the organiser & also the Hon. Secretary of the Sri Lanka Chess Association in blue and Mr Casto Abundo VP of the Asian Chess Federation in the black suite.

Every country representatives were given chance to light up the lamp with the drummers giving their support to them. Teh De Juan represent Malaysia to light up the lamp. Mr Luxman, the organiser and Hon Sec. of Sri Lanka showed him the way.
The dancers dance so graciously in their traditional costumes. It’s good to know their culture.

The KL Open will be played using the Swiss system and be FIDE rated and titled*. The rate of play will be 90 minutes for the whole game with 30 seconds increment for every move starting from the first move.
*The Malaysian Chess Federation is responsible for submission of the KL Open tournament report generated with the Swiss manager pairing program to FIDE for rating and title purposes
3. Prize Fund
1st – RM 10,000 & Challenge Trophy; 2nd – RM 5,000; 3rd – RM 3,000; 4th to 10th - RM 1,000;
11th to 20th – RM500 each
4. Entry Fees to be payable by 16th March 2010; thereafter a 50% penalty of applicable entry fee applies.

5. The Playing Venue & Official Hotel
The KL Open will be held at a venue to be announced later, and while it is not compulsory, we would recommend the very affordable and very comfortable official hotel, the Swiss Inn, Kuala Lumpur, where we propose a package for USD 200 for 7 nights stay on twin sharing basis inclusive of breakfast (USD 375 if alone) together with airport transfers.
The Swiss Inn is located on Petaling Street in the heart of Kuala Lumpur’s vibrant China Town, a frantically busy market of amazing colours, smells and sights that is closed to traffic, and so offers an experience like no other from morning till night!
Around the corner is Pasar Seni (Central Market), today a cultural and crafts centre which is also next to a Light Rail Transit station of the same name and which connects to KL International Airport via the KL Sentral transportation hub and is a 10 minute ride to other major tourist attractions such as the Kuala Lumpur City Centre with its iconic Petronas Twin Towers.
On request we can also arrange 5-star hotel accommodation for participants at The Gardens Hotel & Residences at Mid Valley at a special rate of just USD 1,000 for 7 nights stay (and yes, that is inclusive of breakfast, airport transfers and shuttle to and fro the tournament venue).

Goh Yi Zhang, 17 years old who is a prominent chess player for Chung Ling High School, Penang was killed yesterday during the dragon boat training exercise when the boat suddenly capsized. It was indeed sad and tragic tragedy for those involved and my condolence.

I get to know this young boy in the local tournaments when i was arbitering around during those days. He’s a hardworking junior chess player who always eager to fight for his place in the school team and the junior state team from where I remembered. He’s a great team player and also active in his schools activities. He had represent Chung Ling in the numerous chess events such as Merdeka Chess Championship, MSSPP (Majilis Sekolah-Sekolah Sukan Pulau Pinang), USM, Penang Chess League and others.
However, it’ll be great loss to Chung Ling chess team in this year MSSPP edition but it’ll be great morale boost for them to fight for you! You’ll always be remembered in the hearts of the Chung Ling Chess Team & in the states.
