Happy B'day FM Lim Yee Weng

Today is Malaysia FM Lim Yee Weng big celebration. I get to know him back in year 1997. Correct me if I'm not mistaken Mr Lim. He was born on 24th February 1982. He was crowned National Master in 1996 & 1997 consecutively for 2 years. He was the regular player for Malaysia in the Olympiads. He also took part in Macau Indoor Games tournament & SEA Games. He had won mostly local tournament & recently was champion in the 35th Royal Selangor 2008 & Best Malaysian in the Malaysian Open 2008. Correct me if I'm not mistaken.

Man City boss also chess player

Who is Dr. Sulaiman Abul Kareem Mohammad Al-Fahim (pic)? Recently we heard of him more on Manchester City football club. He was the owner of the Manchester City football team and bought the club £200 million in 1st September 2008. In January he wanted to buy Kaka from AC Milan £100 million which is going to be the world record & world most expensive footballer. However the deal flops when Kaka decided to stay on at AC Milan.

Dr. Sulaiman Abul Kareem Mohammad Al-Fahim was born 1977 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and more popularly known as Sulaiman Al-Fahim is a billionaire philanthropist.

Al-Fahim was exposed to the business world at an early age. Aged eleven Al-Fahim worked in his father's Orient Pharmacy after school. Aged fourteen he began investing into the stock market under his mother's name and at fifteen invested in the property market. At the age eighteen he founded the "Sulaiman Al Fahim Group" which financed education and sports in the UAE. In 1998 he was left orphaned after his parents and younger brother were involved in a fatal road traffic accident near Dubai Airport. Following the loss of his immediate family he moved to the United States to start a new life. There Al-Fahim received his PhD in Real Estate investment from the American University and a MBA in Finance and Real Estate from Kogod School of Business of the American University. 

Al-Fahim is also a keen chess player. He represented his country as a youth and is currently president of the UAE Chess Association, also claiming to have been ranked fifth in the world at the age of nine. In June 2008 Dr. Sulaiman Al Fahim has been elected as a new president of UAE chess federation for the period 2008 – 2012.

Top seed Mamedyrov WITHDRAW from Aeroflot???

We had heard about Nokia gambit which GM Nigel Short handphone suddenly rang during in one of the tournament in UK. We also heard about new FIDE ruling of 'Zero start' which is when the game has started, if the player is not there it's consider a loss.

Top seed Shakhriyar Mamedyarov withdraw from Aeroflot Open after his unexpected lost to GM Igor Kurnosov whom is 100 points lower than him in round 6.

After five rounds of the 2009 Aeroflot Open top seed Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, rated 2724, was leading, together with Alexander Moiseenko (2676) and Igor Kurnosov (2602). All three had 4.0/5 points. Then came round six, in which the following game occurred. After the game Mamedyarov played through the game with a computer, using Rybka as an analysis engine. Rybka is the latest chess engine use to be analyzed. He discovered a close correlation between the moves of the computer and those of his opponent.

Here is his protest against his loss to the Aeroflot organiser. It was taken from chessbase.

During the game my opponent went out of the playing hall after each move, took his coat and withdrew himself on the toilet. After suspicion of unfair play on move 14 I offered a draw, he refused. We quickly played 11 moves, on the 12th move I played a move which confused my opponent. The next moves from him were given as first choice by Rybka, which quickly allowed him to win the game.

Due to this series of suspicions, having to do with the unusual behaviour of my opponent, Igor Kurnosov, I hereby lodge a protest and refuse to continue participation in the tournament.

I hope that this kind of situation will not occur in the future.

In the same ChessVibes report, Dutch reporter quotes arbiter Geurt Gijssen as saying, "After the game I asked him [Kurnosov] to show the contents of his pockets, but all that we found was a pack of sigarets (sic), a lighter and a pen." It's still pending on the arbiters decision.

Kurnosov finally win & lead Aeroflot after round 6

Igor Kurnosov finally won after two drawn games consecutively. He currently leads the Aeroflot A1 2009. For the Asian representatives, it seems like GM Jianchao Zhou maintained his good form by beating GM Murtas Kazhgaleyev with a total points of 4.5 from 6 games. GM Gabriel Sargissian, GM Alexander Moiseenko & GM Arman Pashikian also trailing Kurnosov by 1/2 point.
