WCM Teh De Zen Won 8th Asian Schools Rapid 2012

Well it’s been tiring for these 5 national junior players with back to back tournaments with some just came back from World Youth Chess Championship in Slovenia or Commonwealth Chess Championship in Chennai. They are Chua Jia-Tien (U-9 Girls) and Tan Jun Ying (U-9 Boys) both of them just took part in World Youth while CM Teh De Juan (U-11 Boys), WCM Teh De Zen (U-11 Girls) and Dilwen Ding (U-15 Boys) at Commonwealth Chess. However the Asian Schools at New Delhi just concluded yesterday with 3 events:- Rapid, Classical & Blitz from 13th December to 20th December 2012. Besides them, Sarawak also send some players for exposure for the Asian Schools 2012 :- Vivian Ngieng (U-13 Girls), Samuel Ngieng Chew Sheng (U-15 Boys), Daniel Ngieng Chew Hong (U-17 Boys), Audrey Liong Tse Wern and Tay Yi Wen (Both U-17 Girls) if I’m not mistaken.

With the two powerhouse chess countries, India & China sending their players to Asian Schools Chess Championship 2012, it’s add spices to another 9 countries which are taking part in this prestigious event at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium with 415 players.

In the Rapid event, Indians once again proved its growing superiority in the age group championships as they won 12 Gold, 11 Silver and 9 Bronze out of the 42 at stake.

Ram Gupta of Delhi, Under 17 Open Winner

Delhi youngsters Ram Gupta, Aradhya Garg and Prathivya Gupta brought cheers to home crowd by winning Gold in Under-17 Open, Under-13 Open and Under-5 Girls categories respectively.  Amongst other aspirants in the city, Jescia won Silver in Under-7 Girls while Agamjot S Kals secured bronze in Under-15 open. Eventhough not to miss WCM Teh De Zen also clinched gold medal in the Rapid event in the 8th Asian School 2012 for Malaysia. Congratulations to you! She even missed the medal podium due to lower tie-break in blitz event.
