Georgian Mikheil Mchedlishvili(sitting) pipped Vladimir Georgiev(standing) of Macedonia in the tie-break after both grandmasters ended with 7.5 points at the end of the 10th and final round of the Ravana Challenge Chess Championship that concluded today (September 19, 2009) at the Ceylon Continental Hotel.
Mchedlishvili drew his final game with Alexander Shabalov (USA), while Georgiev drew with Merab Gagunashvili of Georgia. Anton Filippov of Uzbekistan could have joined the two on top but he was held to a draw by Indian IM Roy Saptarshi. Iranian GM, Elshan Moradiabadi, who also needed a win to finish on 7.5, was held to a draw by GM Krasimir Rusev of Bulgaria.
The tournament, organized by the Blue and Gold Chess Club, with the support of the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka, with TIGO as the principle sponsor, has been conducted over 10 rounds and has attracted players from 15 countries.
MSSPP Elgin Lee in Ravana & scored 5.5 points.
