THE Selangor Schools Sports Council (MSSS) has been given the responsibility to host two events in the Malaysian Schools Sports Council (MSSM) calendar.

MSSS unit head Mohamed Latifi Abu Bakar said they would be organising aquatics (swimming, diving and water polo) as well as chess this year.

The aquatics championships will be held at the Darul Ehsan Aquatic Centre in Shah Alam from March 17 to 20 while the chess championships is at the Goldcoast Hotel in Klang from March 16 to 20.

Latifi: We will be working with the state sports associations on the events.

Latifi said they had the expertise to organise both the national events.

“Last year we organised the Asian Schools swimming championships. It was a big success. We hope to make the MSSM aquatics championships a success as well,’’ said Latifi.

The MSSS aquatics championships will be hosted by the Kuala Langat district education department. However, the championships will be held at the Darul Ehsan Aquatics Centre in Shah Alam from Feb 18-20. All 10 districts in Selangor will be sending their representatives for the MSSS aquatics championships.

The championships will also be the base to select the Selangor contingent for the MSSM championships.

Latifi said they would have completed the MSSS and MSSM programmes by June and would focus on other events like wushu, karate, taekwondo and kabaddi.

“We will be working with the state sports associations on the events,’’ said Latifi.
