Favorites for World Youth Chess Championship 2009, Turkey

Under – 8 Boys

In the under-8 boys, we have unofficial 136 players including 2 from Malaysia Amier Hamzah Md Zuhri & Teh De Juan. This year edition we’ll see newly crowned FM Tanuj Vasudeva from the United States and FM Nguyen Hoang Viet Hai from Vietnam as the favorites. FM Tanuj Vasudeva won the Pan American which earned him the title of the youngest FIDE Master in the world at 8 years 2 months & 3 days. FM Nguyen Hoang Viet Hai earned his title through the 10th Asean Age Group 2009 in Vietnam.

Besides them, we also will see Evgenios Ioannidis from Greece who had took part in the European School Championship who i assume will be top seed, Anton Smirnov from Australia, Arsenijs Turko from Latvian and also some unrated Ukranians.

Under – 8 Girls

For the U-8 girls category a total of unofficial 92 players taking part including Teh De Zen from Malaysia. In this girls category newly crowned WFM Annie Wang from United States who won the Pan American will face fierce competition from her compatriot Alisha Chawla, Liza Vigna and Samithra Palakollu.

For Asian countries, Vietnamese Pham Vu Linh Chi, Phillipines Jesca Docena, China Chu Ruotong, and Iranian Seyedeh Fatemeh Hashemi who took part last year edition and some unrated Indian players. Turkey, the host also send 14 players for this category together with Russia & Azebajian.
