6th Asian Schools Chess Championship 2010

The Sixth Asian Schools Chess Championship 2010 got underway at Nagarodaya Shala, Borella, Colombo 08 which started on the 6th to 13th December 2010. 231 players representing 9 nations will compete for gold in 05 age categories. The Championship will be played in Under 07, 09, 11, 13 and 15 Age groups in Open and Girls categories.
The championship was officiated by Mr. Casto Abundo, Vice President of the Asian Chess Federation and Mr. Upali Gunasekara, Vice President of the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka and the President of the Sri Lanka School Chess Association. Speaking at the Opening Ceremony Mr. Luxman Wijesuriya, Hon Secretary of the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka said that in order to provide the local players with more opportunity the CFSL will be holding three Asian events in 2011 and the prestigious Asian Youth Championships in 2012.
63 players from Australia, China, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Singapore and the UAE will compete with a Sri Lankan delegation of over 150 players in competition held over 9 rounds.

The official hotel for the event is the Global Towers Hotel, Marine Drive Colombo 06. Malaysia were represented by Teh De Juan (Under-9) and Teh De Zen (Under-9 Girls) respective age group.

Every country representatives were given chance to light up the lamp with the drummers giving their support to them. Teh De Juan represent Malaysia to light up the lamp. Mr Luxman, the organiser and Hon Sec. of Sri Lanka showed him the way.
