Malaysia Continued To Press On In The Singapore Chess Festival 2010

There were mixed fortunes in the age-group categories but in the Open category NJM Lim Zhuo Ren showed why he deserved his title by holding Indian GM Laxman to a draw. WFM Alia also played well by holding WCM Evi of Indonesia. Keep up FIGHTING over there!

Under 8 Open

Wong Yinn Loong suffered a minor setback when he drew against Singaporean Nar Ken Jin. He will play Singaporean Isa Ahmad Zakwan in round 4. Yinn Loong, You hailed from Penang & plant the ‘POKOK PINANG’ there! Let them know that this tree is in Singapore!

Under 8 Girls

Zainoor Ikmal Mohd Noor continued her determination & fighting spirit by winning Korean Kang Solbee. There were also win from Tan Jia Jin & Tan Jia Xuan whom were the daughters of Penang Chess Association Assistant Secretary, Mr Tan Eng Seong. It was fantastic result in the Under 8 girls category!

However Zainoor Ikmal Mohd Noor will face uphill task against Vietnamese 1st seed WFM Le Tran Phuong Uyen. Make your accompanying parents proud of you & I’d seen your games during the training and the support of your parents towards you and your brother! She had been defeated in the 3rd round & NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE!! Believe in yourself you can do it Zainoor Ikmal! Tan Jia Jin & Tan Jia Xuan, both of you can achieved what is impossible for you!

Under 11 Open

Malaysian young tigers continue to challenge in the Under 11 Open category with Penangnite Tang Wei Kit and Teoh Ern Sheng won their respective games against Singaporean Nicholas Ang and Jerome Chan. They will face Singaporean Shawn Foo and Rudolph Lau respectively. Both of the Singaporean played in the Penang Open if I’m not mistaken. Strike fear on them & you got nothing to lose here!

However another Penangnite Teh De Juan was hold to a draw by Singaporean Ryan Cheng. There were also cheer from Penangnite Ooi Zhi Yang, CM Amier Hamzah, Mohd Noor Azam & Muhd Junaidi with their respective wins for the Malaysian camp. Young Muhd Najwan couldn’t overcome Gregory Loh. Teh De Juan will play against his Penang teammate Ooi Zhi Yang while Mohd Noor Azam will play against Ryan Cheng (De Juan last round opponent), CM Amier Hamzah will play against another Singaporean Ryan Lee and Muhd Junaidi will face against Benedict Woon of Singapore. CM Amier, De Juan, Zhi Yang, Azam & Muhd Junaidi; You guys still got chance to catch up. Continue your fighting spirit & become the RINGMASTER!! Your destiny is in your HANDS!!

Under 11 Girls

There’s mixed fortunes in the Under 11 Girls as Puteri Munajjah & Teh De Zen lost their respective games to Vindy Chandra of Indonesia & Nguyen Thi Minh Oanh of Vietnam. Puteri Rifqah brought cheer by beating Indian Breasha Gupta. She’s now leading with perfect 3 points. WFM Nur Najiha, Siti Khadijah, Tan Jia Yun & Kelly Lim won their respective games.    

Puteri Rifqah will face her uphill battle against 1st seed WFM Abdumalik Zhansaya while WFM Nur Najiha will play against Kelly Lim. Tan Jia Yun, Teh De Zen, & Puteri Munajjah will play against Singapore players respectively while Sabirin Siti will play against Indian Breasha Gupta. 

Under 14 Open

Liew Ken Yew lost his game against Phillipines Jerad Docena. Aron Teh won his game against Karthik Kalagnanam & accumulated 2.5 points while the battle between Tan Jun Feng and Muhd Irfan with Muhd Irfan prevail in his game.   

Aron Teh will play against 3 pointer Philipines Evangelista while Muhd Irfan will play against Singapore Isaak Ethan Soh, Liew Ken Yew will play Singaporean Ryan Lau and Yap Wan Lin will faced Indian Goenka Saumya. 

Under 14 Girls

WCM Nur Nabila continued her ways by beating Singaporean Rachel Liu. Tang Kar Khei & Camilia Johari lost their respective games. WCM Nur Nabila will face 2 pointer Singaporean Pearle Chng. Tang Khar Khei will played against Indian Shalvi Deshmukh.

Under 17 Open

Mohd Nabil continued his winning ways with 2.5 points against Singaporean Peter Chin while Muhammad Syakir suffered his second lost to Indonesian Erliy Candra Kurniawan. Toh Qin Kane & Muhd Junaidi record their 1st win in respective games.

Mohd Nabil will play against Thai Kulpruthanon Thanadon while Muhd Syakir will play against Hong Kong Enoch Wong.

Asean Open

NM Edward Lee is having his tough time & lost his game against FM Timothy Chan & will face Pitra Andika of Indonesia.

Asean Women

WFM Alia also having tough time in the event & drew with WCM Evi Lindiawati of Indonesia & will face Lestari Baiq Vina of Indonesia.

Singapore Open

NJM Lim Zhuo Ren showed why he deserved the title of NJM this year by producing remarkable results by drawing against Indian GM Laxman. Richard Kimbin, Rosli Ahmad and NWM Tan Li Ting won their respective while Mark Siew managed draw against Singaporean Timothy Chan. Season veteran Lim Kian Hwa, Ng Say Long & Olivia Madhavan lost their respective games.

NJM Lim Zhuo Ren will play another Singapore junior Andre Jerome Eng with both of them 2.5 points. Rosli Ahmad, NWM Tan Li Ting & Richard Kimbin will face tough time
