Kepong open junior

This Nov 2, the association will be organising the 14th edition of its annual open junior tournament at the school.

This is a tournament that goes back a long time. I remember being approached some 14 years ago to publicise its first chess event. It was among the first few schools in the country that had the initiative to organise chess tournaments and make them open to pupils from other schools. It was an experiment that found a following in the country.

So this year, the school’s PTA will be holding its 14th event. There will be six age categories from the under-8 to the under-16, and there’ll be trophies and cash or consolation prizes for the top 10 players in each age category.
